The Only Wipe Transition You Need to Start With
Linear Wipe is the simplest and most-used transition effect. A straight line sweeps across your frame, replacing one shot with another. Adjust the angle to sweep left-to-right, top-to-bottom, or diagonally. It's timeless, professional, and works in virtually every context — news packages, trailers, music videos, corporate videos, everything.

- Wipe Angle: 90
- Feather: 0
Add the effect from FX → Transition → Linear Wipe. Wipe Angle controls the sweep direction — 0° is left-to-right, 90° is bottom-to-top, 45° is diagonal. Feather softens the wipe edge — 0 is a hard cut, 20-30 is soft and blendable. The completion parameter animates from 0 to 100 automatically during export, or you can keyframe it manually for custom timing.
When to use it
Use Linear Wipe for any straightforward transition between shots. It's the most neutral transition — appropriate for news, documentaries, corporate content. Use 0° for horizontal reveals, 90° for vertical ones. Combine with pacing: faster wipes (0.3s) feel energetic, slower wipes (1s) feel cinematic. Vary the angle across multiple wipes to keep editing fresh.
