About BrwsrFx

Professional video compositing. Free. In your browser.

BrwsrFx is a browser-based video compositor built for anyone who wants to create motion graphics, animated titles, and composited video without paying for expensive software or installing anything. Open a tab and start building. No sign-up, no install.

The goal is to keep the core product free. Casual creators, students, indie filmmakers, social media editors, people who need the tool occasionally and cannot justify a monthly subscription, are exactly who this was built for. If BrwsrFx saves you money and helps you create something you're proud of, tell someone. That word of mouth is what lets us keep building and keep it free.

Where the idea came from

In early 2026, a question came up while looking at what browser-based creative tools existed. Photo editing in the browser: solved. Basic video cutting in the browser: solved. But compositing, the kind of multi-layer, keyframe-driven, effects-stacked work that After Effects handles, nothing. The gap was obvious. The technology to fill it existed. Nobody had done it yet.

The person who asked that question had a VFX background and had spent time in education. That combination meant the problem was familiar. Teaching motion design means watching students run into the same wall over and over: After Effects is expensive, heavy, and disappears the moment a student account lapses.

The problem with After Effects for students

After Effects requires a capable machine and significant storage. The app alone takes six to eight gigabytes. Install the full Creative Cloud suite and that figure climbs past 100 gigabytes. For a student who has just bought a base model MacBook Air for a creative course, this is a rude awakening. The laptop can technically run it. The disk cannot comfortably hold it.

Then graduation arrives. The student discount ends. The subscription at full price starts looking very different without a campus login. Most students stop using it entirely, not because they stopped creating, but because the cost stopped making sense.

BrwsrFx installs nothing. There is nothing to uninstall. Your disk stays yours.

What is coming next

The compositor is live and growing. Development happens in the open, in three phases.

Phase 1: Core Compositor (live now)

  • Multi-layer canvas compositor
  • Keyframe animation engine
  • 45 built-in effects
  • Chroma keying and masks
  • Pre-compositions
  • 1080p MP4 export, no watermark

Phase 2: Templates and polish (in progress)

  • Undo and redo, history panel (done)
  • Template library
  • Split layer at the playhead
  • Duplicate layer

Phase 3: AI-powered editing (planned)

  • Claude reads and writes the composition directly
  • Describe a change in words, see it applied

Support the project

BrwsrFx is free and ad-supported. The ads are what keep the product free and the development moving. If you find value in the tool, the best thing you can do is share it. Tell a classmate, a colleague, a creator friend who is still paying for software they only use once a month. Every new user helps justify building more features and keeping the core product free for everyone.

Open Settings in the app and use Send feedback any time, it goes straight to the team. If something is broken or something is missing, say so. The roadmap is shaped by what real users actually need.
