Clean Up Bad Audio With 2 Simple Filters
A High Pass filter cuts out low-end rumble and hum. A Low Pass filter dulls harsh, hissy high end. Between the two, they're the first thing worth checking on any run-and-gun or phone-mic recording before reaching for anything more complicated.
Import clipF from your media folder and drag it onto the timeline to try this yourself. This is an audio-only effect — everything here is judged by ear, not by what's in the preview.
Settings used
- Filter: High Pass
- Cutoff: 800 Hz
- Resonance: 0.71
Add the effect from FX → Audio → High-Low Pass. Switch the Filter dropdown between High Pass and Low Pass and drag the Cutoff to hear each end of the spectrum disappear — then dial it back until the cleanup is inaudible but the problem is gone.
